]]> 8 of the 10 Fastest Growing Food & Beverage Companies in U.S. are Healthy/Organic

The 2013 Inc. 500|5000 list  just came out, and I was pleasantly surprised to see the “healthy” food segment dominate. This annual report, of course, honors and ranks the country’s fastest growing companies based on a 3-year aggregate growth rate (so these results are based on 2009-2012 figures). Inc. reports that during this period, the Food and Bev industry as a whole grew at a rate of 82%, compared to 240% in Environmental Services, 130% in Healthcare, 48% in Computer Hardware, and just beating out a Construction industry that came in at 81%.

Here is a breakdown of the top 10 in their Food & Beverage category:

In a recent interview with Larry King, the only female chef inducted to The Culinary Hall of Fame (and super hottie) Cat Cora articulates her outrage about the lack of genetically modified organism ( GMO ) labeling in the U.S., calling it “the largest nutritional human experiment ever.”

Other issues discussed include:

  • How gluten sensitivity has skyrocketed from less than 1% to as much as 7% of Americans;
  • Although new “Farm Bill” has cut over $5B from small farmers, the SNAP program shows promise in education for low-income food consumers on buying smarter, healthier.
